Website development means programming, which is a unique language and thought process. Like any foreign language, learning the many core concepts, shortcuts, and facets takes time. As a younger web developer on the team, I take advantage of the numerous sites which aid me in various development projects. One site that I tend to visit constantly is W3Schools Online.

Lately I find that most of my internet time outside of work is spent visiting Diapers.com. As a mom, I appreciate this website's ease of use and knowledgeable, helpful staff. I can even log in to generate custom deals, or read what other moms think of a particular product.

The designer in me also recognizes the key features that make this a great website. Immediately upon viewing the home page, I like the product organization and categorization. The site's clean lines and simple design present information aesthetically, reducing clutter and page load time.

Recently I have been working on a project that has given me a stronger appreciation for the often overlooked activity of searching. Today's search engines are implementing many new techniques for a better user experience, as particularly illustrated by eBay. Among them are full text, faceted, and related searches.

Full text~ This standard method allows users to type in a keyword or phrase and click 'search'. At the other end, the keyword is taken and compared with other fields in a database. This search can be focused or broad depending on the situation.

When it comes to online shopping, I find myself on both ends of the spectrum. I have done my fair share of internet shopping, and at the same time I have designed professional shopping cart websites. Because of this dual perspective, I tend to be very selective as a customer.
