Design & Development Q&A

Q: What is the difference between Design and Development?
A: Design is the overall look and feel of the website. Development is the data and information put into the site.
Q: What sort of things does Design include?
A: Design includes aspects of the site such as colors, shapes, layout, and graphics.
Q: What do colors pertain to in the Design?
A: Colors pertain to the color scheme you see everywhere on the site. Color schemes are two or more colors used together in a complimentary fashion to create the 'feel' of the site. The feel creates a mood for your site, such as a calming or energetic effect, a serious tone, or a fun-loving style. Color schemes help you connect with your users on an emotional level.
Q: What does shape have to do with Design?
A: Shape implies the overall shape of your design. Shapes can include a rounded corner box, a straight-edge scrolling page, or even a circular design with large round buttons. Like colors, this relates to look and feel. (Formal business sites are often straight-edged, while more informal sites are free-flowing and rounded.)
Q: What does layout have to do with Design?
A: Layout is the structure of your site. It controls where your logo is placed, which side your navigation goes on, how much space you have for content, and other placement issues. While we do not worry about what will go into these places during the Design stage, we still need to decide where they will go. Going back and changing your structure later will incur far more time and cost. To avoid this, we will walk you through the process of what you will need on the page, and show you some options for placement ahead of time.
Q: What graphics are available for my Design?
A: With graphics, the sky is the limit. We have access to thousands of royalty-free stock images. We will select appropriate images, as well as allow you to choose your own, if you wish. Graphics truly enhance a website's visual appeal.
Q: So where does Development come in?
A: The Development stage begins adding content, or basically the text, of your site. All the information you want to convey to your users is inserted into the various content areas of your site. This is why the design has to come first, so your content has a place to go and we know how to fit it there.
